Our volunteers get deserved recognition
SOME of Heathcote’s most driven volunteers were recognised at the National Volunteer Week awards recently, hosted by the Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters.
The award winners were, Christine Cail from the Heathcote Lions Club, Heather Zakrewski from Heathcote Primary School, the Heathcote SES Unit, Heathcote Historical Society, Heathcote Community Children’s Service Association, Ray Anderson from the Heathcote Bowling Club, Margaret Lumby from the Heathcote Ambulance Op Shop and Heathcote Football Netball Club kiosk, Sandra Slatter for her work before, during and after the O’Keefe Rail Trail Marathon, and the Advance Heathcote Committee was also recognised.
“Across Central Victoria our volunteers really are the unsung heroes of our community,’’ Mrs Chesters said.
“National Volunteers Week helps us recognise the commitment and dedication of or the Heathcote SES who works tirelessly to keep the people of Heathcote safe and secure,
“Our volunteers and their organisations create a sense of belonging and build stronger local communities,
“National Volunteers Week is a wonderful opportunity to thank our volunteers and recognise their commitment to our community.”
Not all Heathcote’s amazing volunteers were recognised at these awards. Without people willing to give up their time and help out - a small community like Heathcote doesn’t go round.
