Our vol­un­teers get de­served recog­ni­tion

SOME of Heath­cote’s most driven vol­un­teers were recog­nised at the Na­tional Vol­un­teer Week awards re­cently, hosted by the Fed­eral Mem­ber for Bendigo Lisa Ch­esters.

The award winners were, Chris­tine Cail from the Heath­cote Li­ons Club, Heather Zakrewski from Heath­cote Pri­mary School, the Heath­cote SES Unit, Heath­cote His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety, Heath­cote Com­mu­nity Chil­dren’s Ser­vice As­so­ci­a­tion, Ray Anderson from the Heath­cote Bowl­ing Club, Mar­garet Lumby from the Heath­cote Am­bu­lance Op Shop and Heath­cote Foot­ball Net­ball Club kiosk, San­dra Slatter for her work be­fore, dur­ing and af­ter the O’Keefe Rail Trail Marathon, and the Ad­vance Heath­cote Com­mit­tee was also recog­nised.

“Across Cen­tral Vic­to­ria our vol­un­teers re­ally are the unsung heroes of our com­mu­nity,’’ Mrs Ch­esters said.

“Na­tional Vol­un­teers Week helps us recog­nise the com­mit­ment and ded­i­ca­tion of or the Heath­cote SES who works tire­lessly to keep the peo­ple of Heath­cote safe and se­cure,

“Our vol­un­teers and their or­gan­i­sa­tions cre­ate a sense of be­long­ing and build stronger lo­cal com­mu­ni­ties,

“Na­tional Vol­un­teers Week is a won­der­ful op­por­tu­nity to thank our vol­un­teers and recog­nise their com­mit­ment to our com­mu­nity.”

Not all Heath­cote’s amaz­ing vol­un­teers were recog­nised at these awards. With­out peo­ple will­ing to give up their time and help out - a small com­mu­nity like Heath­cote doesn’t go round.
