Melville Times - - Opinion -

AS a regular shopper at Melville Plaza I am disturbed to hear that the centre is to be redeveloped with the loss of at least two shops.

Instead we now have a Liquorland inside the complex. There doesn't seem to have been any information about these changes. My observations are that:

■ There are already six to seven liquor outlets within three kilometres and Bicton was identified as an area with alcohol problems in a recent report.

■ The current range of shops caters well for the population. There are many units that have older people and there are quite a few people on benefits, so the prices and range of goods mean locals can shop without travelling. EMILY DAWSON, Attadale.
