Melville Times - - Opinion -

I FELT very sad when I read Arthur's letter; ‘Hands off our Beloved School’, in last week's Melville Times. He is a Year 8 student at Perth Modern School, which the newly elected Labor Party is threatening to close and replaced with a high-rise building.

It is typical that this left-wing party will want to destroy an establishment it considers elitist, even though if any elitism exists it does so because of its academic excellence, not the wealth of the parents whose children attend it.

It is well known for the large number of distinguished graduates it produces, which have played a large part in the development of our State.

I personally have a sense of loss, as my great-nephew has gained entry to this seat of learning next year.

I hope that the weight of public opinion will prevail to prevent this sabotage of one of our greatest public schools. JIM REDDYHOUGH, Willeton.
