Ewan picked for WA squad

MELVILLE tal­ent Ewan Niel­son has been re­warded for a stand­out per­for­mance in the School Sport Aus­tralia 15 and Un­der Na­tional Cham­pi­onships with se­lec­tion to the Cricket Aus­tralia Un­der-16s squad.

Niel­son was WA’s lead­ing wicket-taker at the cham­pi­onships with eight scalps from four games, in­clud­ing a fivewicket haul against ACT.

The 14-player Aus­tralian squad fea­tures some of the best tal­ent from the tour­na­ment, as cho­sen by the Youth Se­lec­tion Panel, plus four standby play­ers.

Niel­son is joined in the squad by fel­low WA prod­uct Michael Herbst, who claimed four wick­ets in four games.

South-West young­ster Jay­den Good­win, son of for­mer WA and Zim­babwe bats­man Mur­ray, scored 152 runs and has been se­lected as a standby.
