Reserve upgrade to begin
THE City of Melville will bring forward nearly $850,000 in funding for the revamp of Shirley Strickland Reserve.
Councillors voted unanimously on Tuesday night to draw $843,000 from the City’s 2017-18 community facilities reserve to commence the detailed design process and to progress the tender for the upgrade of floodlights.
A sum of $543,000 has been allocated to upgrade and install new lights, which were highlighted as a need in the concept plan.
The remaining $300,000 will be spent on detailed design and construction preparation.
The $6.7 million redevelopment, which will be largely funded in 2018-19, includes a new pavilion, new picnic and playground facilities, a fitness path, an expansion of the lower rectangular field to accommodate a new cricket wicket and parking upgrades.
