Re­serve up­grade to be­gin

THE City of Melville will bring for­ward nearly $850,000 in fund­ing for the re­vamp of Shirley Strick­land Re­serve.

Coun­cil­lors voted unan­i­mously on Tues­day night to draw $843,000 from the City’s 2017-18 com­mu­nity fa­cil­i­ties re­serve to com­mence the de­tailed de­sign process and to progress the ten­der for the up­grade of flood­lights.

A sum of $543,000 has been al­lo­cated to up­grade and install new lights, which were high­lighted as a need in the con­cept plan.

The re­main­ing $300,000 will be spent on de­tailed de­sign and con­struc­tion preparation.

The $6.7 mil­lion re­de­vel­op­ment, which will be largely funded in 2018-19, in­cludes a new pavil­ion, new pic­nic and playground fa­cil­i­ties, a fit­ness path, an ex­pan­sion of the lower rec­tan­gu­lar field to ac­com­mo­date a new cricket wicket and park­ing up­grades.
