Mzungu in Freo return
Docker Tendai Mzungu will return to his old club in a coaching role.
The 31-year-old, who joined Greater Western Sydney this season, will return to the club he played 102 games for as the inaugural coach of the new Next Generation Academy (NGA).
The academy targets indigenous and multicultural talent from WA, and Mzungu and his team will play a role developing the players through skill acquisition, diet, welfare and strength and conditioning.
Ten players have already been identified through the NGA program as potential future draft concession.
Mzungu said he looked forward to using his qualifications in sports science and education in the role.
“Teaching and coaching go hand in hand, so it all fits in with what I want to do and what I’m passionate about,” he said.
“Hopefully, I can impart some of the skills and knowledge that I’ve acquired along the journey to be better for the role.
“I’m really excited to have this opportunity; I have some fond memories from my playing days at Fremantle and I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter in the working world.”
Mzungu will also be a runner for the Dockers during 2018 games.
