KARDINYA resident Anthony Sciano is in for plenty of pain when he attempts a 24-hour endurance challenge for Telethon, according to MMA giant Soa ‘The Hulk’ Palelei.

Sciano (25) will tackle the test on a road bike hooked up to an indoor trainer.

The trainer keeps the rider stationary while converting the effort of cyclists into speed and propelling an avatar on screen through a digital world.

It is the same set-up Sciano, an experienced triathlon competitor, used recently to score silver at Zwift’s KISS Australian eCrit Finale in Melbourne.

Palelei, who has twice finished the 24-hour non-stop endurance challenge on a stationary ergo grinder, said his new companion would have his challenges.

“The hardest part is between 1am and 6am when there’s not as many people around,” he said.

“This will either break him or make him a man.”

Sciano said he was excited to join the likes of Palelei and former rugby league star Matt Fuller in raising money for Telethon.

“It’s a privilege to be alongside those guys who’ve put themselves through this before,” he said.

“I’m humbled to be a part of it, contributing to something that’s greater than me and having the opportunity to help others.”

Fuller has helped raise close to $600,000 since he began his annual 24-hour endurance challenge in 2001.

“My motivation is my children,” he said. “I’m very lucky to have two healthy children but not everyone is so lucky.”
