OPEN SEASON ON HOMES AND CARS

Melville Times - - Street Watch -

We are unfortunately continuing to see open houses and vehicles broken in to. We cannot stress enough the need for everyone to ensure that doors and windows are locked or secure. In the event an electronic item is stolen, it helps a lot to have a tracking app on the device. We ask that you consider turning them on as it can find your device when lost or stolen but also gives you the ability, in most cases, to remotely wipe your phone so that no personal information gets into the wrong hands. – Senior Sergeant Rob Read

Police have arrested a 44-yearold Spearwood man after an incident on Friday, September 29. At 6.55pm, the man was driving a Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo sedan that was stopped at the intersection of Spearwood Avenue and Barrington Street. Police allege when the lights turned green, the driver revved the engine, causing the back wheels to lose traction, and accelerated heavily through the intersection, breaking the speed limit. Police say the car was next to another Fold Falcon being driven the same way. When Regional Operations Group officers stopped the car they found a five-year-old child in a booster chair in the front seat that wasn't properly restrained. The car was impounded for 28 days.

PALMYRA

Palmyra Police had a win after they picked up a driver who should not have been on the road. “Driving under the influence with a suspended licence, we have friends who will happily take your car,” the local team tweeted earlier this month.

WILLAGEE

A sawn-off shotgun and drug paraphernalia were among a haul uncovered by police following a chase through numerous southern suburbs on September 22, officers allege. Regional Investigations Unit detectives say they attempted to stop the driver of a Honda Accord sedan in Willagee about 1.20pm. The vehicle had been reported stolen. “Officers activated their lights and sirens, however it is alleged that the driver failed to stop and evaded police through Willagee, Palmyra, East Fremantle and Fremantle before clipping two vehicles and colliding with a brick wall on Hampton Road,” a police spokesman said. “The driver was arrested at the scene.” Police said a search of car uncovered a sawn-off shotgun, ammunition and drug paraphernalia. A 47-year-old, of no fixed address, was slapped with a number of charges, including assault with intent to prevent arrest, breach of bail, reckless driving to escape pursuit by police and breach of bail. The driver of the vehicle, arrested at the scene, was taken by ambulance to Fiona Stanley Hospital for precautionary checks.
