Council appoints new executive
CITY of Melville has filled its technical services director role with a familiar face, Mick McCarthy.
Councillors endorsed Mr McCarthy, South West Group (SWG) director for the past six years, behind closed doors on Tuesday night.
He moves into the role vacated by John Christie, who left his post on October 27 after nine years to become Belmont chief executive.
Mr McCarthy said he was looking forward to the new challenge.
“This (role) provides me with career progression,” he said.
His role includes responsibility for roads, drainage, footpaths, street lighting, underground power and engineering design.
In a report to councillors, employee services officer Nicholas Olds said five applicants were interviewed for the job, which has a remuneration package of up to $265,000 per annum.
Mr McCarthy is expected to start at the City after serving his threemonth notice period with the SWG.
