Bound for Antarc­tica

A BIC­TON lo­cal will leave an Aus­tralian sum­mer for the cold­est cli­mate on Earth af­ter be­ing se­lected to par­tic­i­pate in the 2019 Home­ward Bound pro­gram.

The lead­er­ship, strate­gic and science ini­tia­tive, which takes par­tic­i­pants all the way to Antarc­tica, aims to heighten the in­flu­ence and im­pact of women with a science back­ground in de­ci­sions that im­pact the world.

Lec­turer Les­ley Se­f­cik was cho­sen for the 2019 pro­gram and will de­part in De­cem­ber.

“As a strong fem­i­nist, teacher, moth­erof-three and en­vi­ron­men­tal ac­tivist, I will be cham­pi­oning the idea that we are all re­spon­si­ble for mak­ing de­ci­sions to­ward a more eco­log­i­cally and eq­ui­table fu­ture for our planet,” she said.

“We must not wait for cur­rent gov­ern­ments and cor­po­ra­tions to do this for us.”
