Bulldogs put bite on Sharks

Melville Times - - Wafl - Paul Prior

THE first of the Fremantle derbies for season 2018 was played in Round 4 at East Fremantle Oval and it was South Fremantle running out 94point victors, 18.24 (132) to East Fremantle 5.8 (38).

Unfortunately, this margin actually flattered East Fremantle if you consider there were 42 scoring shots to 13, with another damning statistic being South Fremantle’s whopping 71 inside-50s to East Fremantle’s 19.

East Fremantle was completely dominated from start to finish. One clash that was reasonably even was the ruck duel between East Fremantle’s Jonathon Griffin and South Fremantle’s Brock Higgins. This was not reflected in the midfield battle, with the South Fremantle midfield dominating.

Virtually any of the South Fremantle players could be singled out for praise, with Brandon Donaldson (also kicking three goals), Shane Hockey and the ever-reliable Haiden Schloithe the leading disposal winners for the victors.

Blaine Johnson was another to kick three goals, while Ashton Hams kicked four goals and was regularly the target inside 50.

Up until this game there was a lot of positivity around East Fremantle and they will be very keen to put this mauling behind them and give a very strong effort next week when they travel to Steel Blue Oval to confront Swan Districts.

South Fremantle easily accounted for East Fremantle in the season’s first derby.
