FAMILY is a major theme for Applecross resident Daniela Dlugocz’s artwork in the City of Melville’s Annual Art Awards exhibition.

The exhibition will include more than 260 artworks from established and emerging WA artists and will be run at the City’s Civic Centre from September 8-16.

The German-born artist, who moved to Australia from the city of Braunschweig 12 years ago after receiving a scholarship, will have artwork featuring her daughter Celia in the exhibition.

“I used to be really into things like jelly fish but things have changed since I had children and my work has become a bit more personal,” she said.

“My work was always just one or two colours like black and white but this piece featured more colours.

“I felt so connected to the piece. Celia is like a mini-version of myself, so inspirational and so full of life.

“The exhibition is a good opportunity to showcase my work but every artist loves to win things.”
