Letterbox theft leaves Booragoon resident bemused

CHAD Beins did not mind people taking items from his verge collection, but he was stunned when thieves stole his letterbox.

The Booragoon resident was working in his front garden on October 21 when he noticed the missing box.

“I was working in my boat out the front and then I screamed out that it’s gone,” he said.

“My family had put out the rubbish on Saturday close to the letterbox, but there is no way you could have mistaken it for trash.

“It was a concrete letterbox, so it would have taken a fair bit of effort to remove. I think it would have taken two strong people.”

Mr Beins said he had no issue with the City of Melville’s bulk verge collection system.

“It gives people a chance to rummage through items. I understand that one man’s treasure is another man’s pain,” he said.

“My family laughed when it happened and I can see the lighter side of the situation, although I was irritated at first. We’ve bought a cheap letterbox for the moment, although I think it looks alright.”
