Two 2017 stud­ies have raised new con­cerns about tat­too­ing. One found the sweat rate of inked skin to be­half that of bare skin, po­ten­tially com­pro­mis­ing body cool­ing and your work­out. The other dis­cov­ered ink par­ti­cles that had mi­grated to lymph nodes, which play a key role in im­mu­nity. Both stud­ies were small, how­ever. Bot­tom line: think twice be­fore cov­er­ing great swathes of your body with tat­toos like anNRL player. But as for get­ting a small I-love-Mum heart on your arm, you’ re still in the clear.
