Win­ter may not be ex­cep­tion­ally cold in Tas­ma­nia, but it is rather long, isn’t it? As we head into what prom­ises to be an­other chilly week­end, the har­bin­gers of spring are al­ready tan­ta­lis­ing us, though. Our chief pho­tog­ra­pher, Richard Jupe, was treated to a joy­ful dis­play of blooms when he ar­rived to pho­to­graph to­day’s cover at the Clare­mont spring flower show. Our colum­nists keep a par­tic­u­larly close eye on sea­sonal changes. Charles Woo­ley, of course, has high­land trout lakes per­ma­nently on his mind. Last week, our bird man Don Knowler shared his ex­plo­ration of the sea­sons over a year on ku­nanyi/Mt Welling­ton. And this week, gar­den­ing colum­nist Jen­nifer Stack­house rev­els in the sea­son, start­ing with artist Michael McWil­liams’ beau­ti­ful gar­den at Perth. Our an­nual plant­ing guide ex­pertly com­piled by Jen­nifer is de­signed to pull out and put on your fridge or wall (p12-13). We hope you find in­spi­ra­tion, too, in our fea­ture on the ben­e­fits of de­clut­ter­ing, re­or­gan­is­ing and gen­er­ally get­ting a grip on the home­front.
