Mercury (Hobart) - Magazine - - UPFRONT -

Visit New Norfolk’s Valleyfield Garden, open tomorrow and next Sunday from 10am-4.30pm. This private National Trust-listed property goes back to 1813 when the land was granted to exNorfolk Island convicts William and Mary Abel. On the River Derwent, the house was built and licensed as the Kings Head Inn in 1822. Hugh Ashton Warner bought it in 1919 and his descendants have lived there since. It was once home to Tasmanian Governor Kate Warner and husband Dick. It is now owned by one of their daughters and her family. Its lawns, majestic trees and bountiful flower and vegie gardens will be open to the public. Entry (cash only) is $10 adults, $5 children, $25 per family and includes tea and coffee. Light refreshments from Silver Bean Events food van. 120 Hamilton Rd, New Norfolk. facebook.com/Valleyfield.New.Norfolk
