Ben Clifford Rosny Schoolhouse Gallery Weds — Sunday 11am — 5pm Until tomorrow

This one does exactly what it says: Ben Clifford gets right up close to some native animals and explores the feel and look of them. It’s remarkably skilled painting work that emphasises photorealistic style details, with every hair and whisker of a living creature rendered in precise and accurate detail. Clifford is clearly fascinated with Tasmanian wildlife, and his decision here to make some larger-than-life portraits of animals really brings his subjects to rich life. The wetness of a Tasmanian devil’s muzzle and the hungry urgency of a possum clasping a bit of food are remarkably captured. The sheer size of the works makes them easy to get lost in, exploring every detail Clifford captures.
