PRICE A roughly $2000 jump across the range has the GLS start­ing at $116,900 for the 350d and top­ping out at $217,900 for the AMG GLS63. TECH­NOL­OGY Ap­ple CarPlay and a new more ex­ten­sive range of driv­ing modes. There’s also an op­tional “Off-Road Engi­neer­ing” pack that can en­gage low-range trans­mis­sion and cen­tre diff and lift air sus­pen­sion. PER­FOR­MANCE A run to triple fig­ures takes just 5.3 sec­onds. Fuel con­sump­tion is a claimed 11.3 litres ev­ery 100km, but it drinks more in real world con­di­tions. DRIV­ING Adap­tive damp­ing does an im­pres­sive job of keep­ing the 2.5-tonne SUV level ir­re­spec­tive of pace. Nine­speed auto is near seam­less once warmed up but can clunk on down­shifts when cold. DE­SIGN Badg­ing is the big­gest real change but there are tweaks to the lights and bumpers front and rear. In­te­rior up­dates in­clude new in­fo­tain­ment screen, re­vised dash and steer­ing wheel.
