Tigers continue to build on historic second season

- SIMEON THOMAS-WILSON

IT’S been a season of firsts for the Tigers this year, but it will be a tough ask to keep them rolling at West Park today.

So far this season the Tigers have recorded their first win as a club, over Clarence in round four, and are coming off backto-back wins (another first) against Lauderdale and Launceston.

A victory over Burnie today would represent the club’s first away success, but coach Adam Henley is a realist.

“I suppose we’ve looked at Launceston beating Burnie up there [in round nine] and we’ve taken confidence from those sorts of things,” Henley said.

“We know if we can play our best footy and with a bit of luck they are a bit underdone and take us lightly, we could make an impact.”

If coming up against a wellpolished Burnie side isn’t difficult enough, the Tigers will also have to overcome not having played at West Park before.

“It’s our first look at it and I reckon about 90 per cent of the guys haven’t played there before,” Henley said.

One player who does have some knowledge of the ground is former Burnie boy Samael Rice, and Henley said he has shed some light on how to handle the conditions.

“At the end of the day we will play our style of footy and adapt to the Burnie ground.”
