Price of power to rise 2%

TASMANIANS will be paying an extra 2 per cent, or an average of $38 a year, more for power from next weekend.

The Tasmanian Economic Regulator yesterday approved Aurora Energy’s new prices which will apply to all residentia­l and small business customers who have not entered into a market contract.

Joe Dimasi said the estimated annual bill increase was based on a number of usage assumption­s and that the price rise would have been higher without recent legislativ­e changes to cap power prices.
