Hutchins snuffs Roosters’ season
HUTCHINS has earned a spot in the Old Scholars grand final against Richmond following a clinical second-half against DOSA in the preliminary final on Saturday.
The Roosters drew first blood through a Justin Carroll goal aided by a 50m penalty.
But Tom Triffitt, who kicked seven goals for the game, and Mitch Williamson replied as the Lions controlled the quarter, leading 5.1 (31) to 2.1 (13) at the break.
Williamson kicked his third goal early in the second quarter but DOSA found space and bridged the gap with three goals. Only costly misses, including on the half-time siren, denied them the lead.
DOSA went defensive in the third quarter before a goal to the Lions’ Jack Bastick and a brace from Tom Triffitt saw them break away.
But DOSA’s Justin Carroll goaled on the three-quarter time siren and it was game on.
Hutchins attacked consistently in the final quarter, adding five goals to one and winning 14.7 (91) to 7.11 (53).
The ruck duels between Lions Hugh Johnston and Larry Owen against Roosters Mitchell Reeve were a highlight while Scott Nichols and Jamie Clark were excellent for the Lions.
Roosters defenders Sam Peacock and Josh Roberts were also solid performers.
DOSA reserves will meet Richmond after disposing of OHA.
