Using phones in cars a killer
DRIVERS using a mobile phone were involved in crashes that killed the equivalent of one person every 10 days last year.
Some 35 deaths were recorded in British accidents for 2016 where a driver being distracted or impaired by their phone was a contributory fac- tor, up from 22 deaths in 2015.
A further 137 road users were seriously injured in such incidents, according to Department for Transport figures. Pedestrian deaths saw the largest year-on-year rise at 10 per cent, followed by car occupants (8 per cent).
