Fire alert to O’Hea, Cambage

-

SUZY Batkovic says it won’t be another episode of “the Lizzy show” when the Townsville Fire mainstay locks horns with Melbourne’s Liz Cambage in today’s WNBL grand final series opener.

The 37-year-old Batkovic has the tough task of slowing the MVP favourite, who leads the league in points (23.4) and rebounds (10.5) a game.

But the Fire veteran sits third and second in those categories herself, meaning much of the hype has revolved around the pair’s battle.

Batkovic knows she has a job on her hands, but says it’s another Melbourne Boomer who may prove more influential in the three-game series.

“I think it is one key, but we’re not just focused on Liz,” she said.

“I think Jenna O’Hea is huge for them. I think that’s their biggest key as their captain, their leader.”

WNBL GRAND FINAL SERIES Townsville Fire versus Melbourne Boomers Game 1 in Townsville, today. Game 2 in Melbourne, Thursday. Game 3 (if required), in Townsville, Sunday, January 21.
