Flawed assessment

RECENT Mercury coverage of the Federal Government’s approval of the Lake Malbena developmen­t overlooks the crucial role of the Reserve Activity Assessment by Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service. This was the only assessment of the impacts against the requiremen­ts of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area Management Plan 2016 and the main source of informatio­n for the Federal Government assessment. It became public because it was released as part of the Federal assessment. This revealed a flawed document that should never have been signed off as complete from a PWS perspectiv­e.
