Flawed assessment
RECENT Mercury coverage of the Federal Government’s approval of the Lake Malbena development overlooks the crucial role of the Reserve Activity Assessment by Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service. This was the only assessment of the impacts against the requirements of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area Management Plan 2016 and the main source of information for the Federal Government assessment. It became public because it was released as part of the Federal assessment. This revealed a flawed document that should never have been signed off as complete from a PWS perspective.
