Volkers to face trial over sex charges
FORMER top Australian swimming coach Scott Volkers has been committed to stand trial over a string of alleged historical child sex offences.
The prominent instructor is facing five counts of indecent treatment of girls under the age of 16. Volkers is accused of indecently dealing with two girls in Brisbane during the 1980s.
The swimming coach appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday where he was committed to stand trial.
He did not enter a plea and made no comment as he left.
Volkers was originally charged in 2002 but the allegations were later dropped. Queensland’s child abuse and sexual crime group reopened the case in 2017 following the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Abuse. Volkers will stand trial in the Brisbane District Court at a later date.
