Mercury (Hobart) - - TELEVISION - Don’t Stop The Music Pompeii’s Final Hours: New Evidence

ABC, 7.40pm In this sprightly doco, we meet principal Lee Musumeci, who is on a mission to empower kids at her Perth school with music. Proven to be one of the most effective tools in enhancing learning, a proper musical education has been out of reach for her disadvantaged students – until now. With the help of musical experts and a celebrity in Guy Sebastian (pictured), they commence a state-of-the-art singing and instrument program. SBS, 7.35pm This melodramatic documentary features some quite distressing scenes. It’s fascinating stuff, but also quite stomach-churning as one of the world’s most famous natural disasters is investigated. But there’s thankfully a bit of humour among the death and destruction. Premiering tonight, historian Bettany Hughes and archaeologist Raksha Dave explore what life was like in the final days of the doomed ancient Roman city of Pompeii.
