Gardiner seals win for Sorell
IN blustery conditions, Sorell broke through for its first win of the season, defeating Glenorchy Rodman by 16 shots in Bowls Tasmania South Women’s Division One action on Thursday.
Faye Gardiner set up the win for Sorell defeating Trudy Davis by 11 shots.
Janet Cowan only won two of the first eight ends against Dianne Ayton but scored an eight and a six on those ends then scored another six and a five after lunch to win by eight shots.
Vicky Wakefield led well for Cowan who played a good skips game herself. Glenorchy Rodman’s Pat McCann played well and was ahead all day, eventually defeating Julie Pursell by three shots.
Meanwhile, Brighton defeated an undermanned Dover RSL by 21 shots.
Judy Williams was too good for Carol Bannister, restricting Bannister to just six winning ends and finishing 23 shots in front.
Sue Grant jumped out to an eight-shot lead against Sharon Delaney after five ends before Delaney stormed home to finish just three shots in arrears of Grant.
Dover won on the other rink. Kathy Townsend was in control leading by seven shots after the 12th end but then dropped a six and had a tight battle after that to eventually win by five shots against Val Lukasek.
Sandy Bay had a convincing 11 shot win against Kingborough. After a slow start, Peri Buckley overcame a determined Frances Phillips by seven shots.
Robyn Leggett opened up a matchwinning 13-shot lead by the 15th end against Greta Murray who fought back to only go down by four shots.
In other matches, Claremont soundly defeated second-placed Buckingham by 30 shots, while Howrah overcame Rosny Park by 22 shots.
