Gar­diner seals win for Sorell

IN blus­tery con­di­tions, Sorell broke through for its first win of the sea­son, de­feat­ing Glenorchy Rod­man by 16 shots in Bowls Tas­ma­nia South Women’s Divi­sion One ac­tion on Thurs­day.

Faye Gar­diner set up the win for Sorell de­feat­ing Trudy Davis by 11 shots.

Janet Cowan only won two of the first eight ends against Dianne Ay­ton but scored an eight and a six on those ends then scored an­other six and a five af­ter lunch to win by eight shots.

Vicky Wake­field led well for Cowan who played a good skips game her­self. Glenorchy Rod­man’s Pat McCann played well and was ahead all day, even­tu­ally de­feat­ing Julie Pursell by three shots.

Mean­while, Brighton de­feated an un­der­manned Dover RSL by 21 shots.

Judy Wil­liams was too good for Carol Ban­nis­ter, restrict­ing Ban­nis­ter to just six win­ning ends and fin­ish­ing 23 shots in front.

Sue Grant jumped out to an eight-shot lead against Sharon De­laney af­ter five ends be­fore De­laney stormed home to fin­ish just three shots in ar­rears of Grant.

Dover won on the other rink. Kathy Townsend was in con­trol lead­ing by seven shots af­ter the 12th end but then dropped a six and had a tight bat­tle af­ter that to even­tu­ally win by five shots against Val Lukasek.

Sandy Bay had a con­vinc­ing 11 shot win against King­bor­ough. Af­ter a slow start, Peri Buck­ley over­came a de­ter­mined Frances Phillips by seven shots.

Robyn Leggett opened up a match­win­ning 13-shot lead by the 15th end against Greta Mur­ray who fought back to only go down by four shots.

In other matches, Clare­mont soundly de­feated sec­ond-placed Buck­ing­ham by 30 shots, while Howrah over­came Rosny Park by 22 shots.
