Bus travel plans good for the soul

- Peter Nielsen Geilston Bay

READER Phil Guest hit the nail on the head with the free city-circle bus (Letters, February 7). A service like this would alleviate some of the city traffic woes.

There has been a push for light rail from the city to Bridgewater or Brighton, however I feel this is a very selfish attitude when the money expended could be used to expand the bus service over the whole of the Hobart area.

There are a lot of people who would like to catch a bus who live in the south or on the eastern side of the river if the bus services were available and more frequent.

We also need smaller buses to bring people from the suburbs to the main feeder routes into the city. If bus services are convenient and regular, people will use them like they do in larger cities and it would be worth subsidising a service like this, good for the environment and good for the soul when travelling by bus or car around our city and surrounds.
