Dylan sinks the Blues with ripper hit single

- ED JACKSON

A THUMPING finish by Dylan Wenzell-Halls has ended Brisbane’s 12-match ALeague winless run.

The undermanned Roar came from behind in remarkable fashion to secure a 2-1 win over Sydney FC.

The 21-year-old sent the crowd at Suncorp Stadium into delirium last night with a smashing right-foot shot from the edge of the area in the 90th minute to secure the Roar’s second win of a dismal season.

Earlier, substitute Tobias Mikkelsen’s emphatic 77thminute finish had cancelled out Danny De Silva’s 55th minute opener for the Sky Blues.

The victory will be especially pleasing for interim head coach Darren Davies given the lack of players at the Welshman’s disposal.

With goalkeeper Jamie Young as well as defenders Dane Ingham and Daniel Bowles all suspended, the Roar then lost defensive pair Luke DeVere and Jack Hingert to first-half knee injuries.

Such was Brisbane’s player crisis, Davies was forced to throw on schoolboy defender Izaack Powell in the 30th min- ute when Hingert limped off. The teenager, who does not turn 17 until Tuesday, eclipsed Tommy Oar as the youngest player in the Roar’s history when he came on.

It is Davies’s first win since taking over following John Aloisi’s departure just before Christmas.

The defeat will be desperately disappointing for Sydney coach Steve Corica, after his team had appeared to have wrested control from the dogged home team through De Silva’s opener.

The Roar face table-topping Perth Glory next weekend, with Spanish midfielder Alex Lopez suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Sydney is at Leichhardt Oval next weekend to host bottom-placed Central Coast Mariners.
