Quest to resume construction work

WORKS on the 93-apartment Quest Midland will resume this month after the hotel group appointed Firm Constructions to complete the project by May next year.

Quest Apartment Hotels growth general manager James Shields said works stopped at The Crescent site when DGX Construction of Diploma Group went into administration in December last year.

The property developer won a $17 million contract in early 2016 to build the seven-storey hotel with an underground carpark.

It was due to open in October this year but has been delayed about seven months.

“A new builder needed to be appointed to continue the construction,” Mr Shields said. “There’s been a change of builder and the new builder will commence onsite this month.

“The works are about 20 per cent complete, so basically the balance of the works, but the bulk of the structure’s been completed.

“The funding is back in place and we are confident it’s going to get started this month and it will complete in May, 2018.”

Mr Shields said there was a strong demand in the area’s accommodation market and they were committed to being there despite the setback.

“There was really a lack of supply in that market and we really saw there were quite a few drivers for us because we cater to the long-stay, extended-stay corporate traveller,” he said.

“There were quite a few reasons for us to want to be there and continue to be there despite there being some challenges with the developer.

“We think there’s good depth in the market there and enough economic drivers.”
