CLAIMS OF SUPPORT ARE INCORRECT
THE Save Kalamunda Shire Action Group (SKSAG) recently placed a half-page advert in all our local papers stating that I, along with other councillors, voted to become a City. I would like to set the record straight. After the special electors meeting, SKSAG members attended the council meeting (February 27, 2017) and witnessed me voting ‘no’ against City status.
The recent advert placed by this group questions my honesty and integrity. After reading this ad, and in light of all the facts, I certainly question theirs.
This appears to be nothing more than a smear campaign targeting me and designed to sway voters during this election period.
SKSAG also stated in their ad that councillors John Giardina and Geoff Stallard have ‘never voted to become a City’.
This is absolutely incorrect as these councillors have indeed voted ‘yes’ to City status (March 24, 2014 and April 28, 2015).
These minutes are available online to view on the City of Kalamunda’s website.
Along with the entire council, I originally supported City status believing it would be a protection against any possible future takeover.
However, in light of the serious concerns demonstrated by the community, I then made the decision to not support City status and voted ‘no’.
It is my personal view that City status should have been decided by a referendum.
I am acutely aware of who is behind this smear campaign.
This is not the first time I have been falsely accused of doing something. This type of poor behaviour is what gives politics a bad reputation.
