Child in front for car chase

PO­LICE have charged a 31-year-old man af­ter a car chase through sev­eral sub­urbs – while a four-year-old was trav­el­ling un­re­strained in the front seat.

Of­fi­cers al­legedly tried to stop a Holden Ac­claim on Kala­munda Road in High Wy­combe on Novem­ber 2 at 9.50pm.

Po­lice lost sight of the car, but pulled it over when they saw it again on Ridge Hill Road in Goose­berry Hill.

How­ever, when the po­lice of­fi­cers got out of their car to speak with the driver, he al­legedly sped away from them.

A chase took place through sev­eral sub­urbs in­clud­ing He­lena Val­ley and Mid­land, be­fore a tyre de­fla­tion de­vice set up on Bush­mead Road in Bellevue stopped the car. The man ran from the car but was caught nearby.

Of­fi­cers then found that the 31-year-old fe­male pas­sen­ger had an un­re­strained four-yearold child on her lap while trav­el­ling in the front seat.

Po­lice say they found a short hand axe hid­den un­der the driver’s seat dur­ing a search.

The man was charged with of­fences in­clud­ing reck­less driv­ing to es­cape pur­suit by po­lice and no au­thor­ity to drive.
