Rum team in line for more success

Midwest Times - - NEWS - Zoe Keenan

The Illegal Tender Rum Co is brewing up a storm with all the right ingredients for success, earning the Dongara business a nomination in the 2017 WA Regional Small Business Awards.

Codie Palmer and partner Hayley Wells’ creation was nominated for the best start-up business category, along with four other finalists.

Ms Wells said they were excited to have been nominated and were hopeful to bring the award home for the Mid West.

Illegal Tender Rum started in 2015 and has taken out international awards in the US, UK and Asia as well as winning the local achiever award at this year’s Business Excellence Awards in Geraldton.

Ms Wells and Mr Palmer recently started tours at their distillery in Dongara.

“We decided to start tours because we had a few tourists popping in wanting to see what we do,” Ms Wells said. “We thought it’d be a great way to showcase our international awards and to do something for Dongara as well.

“We hope people will come, do a tour and check out what we do, then stay in town for lunch somewhere.” The company presently has two distillery tours. A one-hour tour for those who want an in-depth experience and a 15-minute walk through to give people a taste of what happens behind the scenes.
