Shire no to carport

Midwest Times - - OPINION - Geoff Vivian

Dandaragan Shire has refused planning approval to Outdoor World Wangara for a large carport it applied to build on a property it owns at 20 Dalton Street, Jurien Bay, opposite Hill Street.

The owner had intended the building to house one or more motor boats and was asking councillors to waive several points of its planning policy.

Councillors voted to refuse the application because the structure was too large, partly enclosed, too close to the boundary and not adjoining the nearby dwelling or under its roof line. Council minutes say the building would detract from the visual amenity of neighbouring properties.

“The proposed development does not comply with orderly and proper planning for the locality,” the minutes stated.

“Approval of such development would set an undesirable precedent for similar applications in the future, in contravention of council-adopted policy.”

Dandaragan Shire president Leslee Holmes said the owners had the right to appeal.
