Stromatolite toilet proposed

Shark Bay Shire has been asked to provide public toilets for tourists who pull into Hamelin Pool to view the stromatolites.

Mrs Denise Breen wrote a letter to the Shire that was tabled at last month’s council meeting in which she pointed out the nearest public toilets were 60km away at the Overlander Roadhouse.

“Who can hold on that long,” she said.

Shire president Cheryl Cowell said council would investigate the feasibility of providing toilets at the stromatolites, where it did not own all of the land.

She said the existing facilities were a combined area of land consisting of a carpark on a council reserve and another reserve under the care and control of the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions.
