Firm seeks Crown land for solar panels
Contract Power is asking the Department of Lands, Planning and Heritage for unallocated Crown land to put more solar panels for the Wiluna power station.
Company representative Michael Hall said the spare block next door to the town power supply could not support the extra solar panels Contract Power wanted to add without creating shadows.
“It will not allow for any expansion in the future, if needed, and the increasing ability to add battery to achieve diesel off power supplies, which we are aiming for,” he said.
“It ensures a security of supply for Wiluna and the ability to add more solar should the town expand.”
Councillors agreed to support the company’s application with an official letter from the Shire, on which the department had insisted.
The council also agreed to close the access laneways between Thompson and Howard streets if the application succeeded.
All councillors agreed to the motion, moved by Cr Stacey Petterson and seconded by Cr Peter Grundy.
