Station vital to emergencies
A new Telstra base station in Kalbarri is improving mobile coverage and providing critical help to Kalbarri SES teams in emergency situations.
Kalbarri SES local manager Steve Cable said the new mobile base station at the Loop had already played a critical role in rescuing someone. “Only recently the new tower played a critical role in helping to rescue a tourist from the bottom of the gorge who needed assistance,” he said.
“This new base station has radically enhanced our communications to a high incident area which was a black spot for mobile coverage.”
As well as the new base station in Kalbarri a new tower went up at Meanarra Hill just outside of Kalbarri as part of Telstra’s roll-out of the mobile black spot program.
Telstra area general manager Boyd Brown said they were aware of the challenges facing regional communities through the program and hoped to make a difference by extending mobile coverage.
