Regional roads to receive funding for upgrades

Midwest Times - - NEWS -

Major highways across the State will share in $28.4 million of funding to improve driver safety in regional WA.

Under the State Government’s Safer Roads program, 24 notorious regional roads will receive funding for upgrades such as road widening, realignment and intersection upgrades.

Brand Highway north of Cataby and Victoria Highway in the Kimberley will be widened.

Indian Ocean Drive will have audible edge lines installed and widening works completed.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said simple tasks such as widening made a big difference.

“While many of us will travel on WA roads for our entire lives without being involved in a serious accident, the sad fact of vehicle travel is that it comes with an inherent risk,” she said.

“Safer Roads’ aim is to create more forgiving roads to reduce safety risks, and the trauma and suffering of crash victims and their loved ones.”
