Fos­ter pock­ets five straight

For the fifth time in a row, lo­cal Luke Fos­ter has taken home the Great North­ern 8 Ball As­so­ci­a­tion’s 2018 Pirtek Open af­ter a con­vinc­ing come­back from the fifth-place spot recorded af­ter a dis­ap­point­ing round robin.

The sea­soned player and cap­tain of the State team has boasted a place in seven of the past eight grand fi­nals and has con­tin­ued to de­feat his ad­ver­saries com­fort­ably.

In a nail­bit­ing match, run­ner-up Graeme Tuf­fley won the quar­ter­fi­nal against Vic Mar­cello and went on to de­feat Nathan McMa­hon in the semi­fi­nal.

McMa­hon placed equal third with Luke An­gle­sey while Adrian Lan­caster, Mar­cello, Stone Sten­house and Man­dar Ran­ganekar were equal fifth. Equal ninth were Si­mon Gray, Matty Gil­more, Marchi­andi Hami and Ja­cob Sum­ner while Kyle Van Zon, Danny Weavers, Re­becca O’Mara and David Collingridge stood at equal 13th.

The B-grade game be­tween Danny Weavers and Re­becca O’Mara re­sulted in a win for Weavers while the match be­tween Marchi Hami and Holly Va’aelua ended with Hami vic­to­ri­ous.

In the C-grade, Dy­lan Moyes de­feated Suzie Gibbs and Trevor Gray took out Shane Cas­sel­ton.

Moyes and Gray faced each other in the grand fi­nal, lead­ing Moyes to take home the ti­tle. Noel Bren­nan de­feated Dar­ren Janitz in the con­so­la­tion plate.

The 2018 Pirtek Open was held at the Ital­ian Club in Ger­ald­ton over the Septem­ber long week­end.

Graeme Tuf­fley and Luke Fos­ter fin­ished run­ner-up and win­ner re­spec­tively in the 2018 Pirtek Open.
