Teen eyes Thai glory

Multi-ta­lented Carnar­von ath­lete Judd Mor­ris was five when he started play­ing soc­cer, and with 10 years of kick­ing un­der his belt, he is ready to jump on the world stage and con­quer his first in­ter­na­tional tour­na­ment.

Judd will join the Gold Fields Un­der 15s Re­gional State Squad in Thai­land this Novem­ber, a WA team vy­ing for the Phuket Cup.

Carnar­von’s soc­cer sea­son has fin­ished, but the 15-year-old said his other sport­ing ac­tiv­i­ties were sure to keep him ac­tive, par­tic­u­larly cricket, with the sum­mer sea­son due to start soon.

Judd, who also plays foot­ball for the Gas­coyne Hawks, said he al­ways got asked what sport he en­joyed most and he liked them all too much to pick.

He is, how­ever, ex­cited for a bout of over­seas soc­cer, a first­time ex­pe­ri­ence for him.

“I’m look­ing for­ward to play­ing at an elite level and the ex­pe­ri­ence of play­ing over­seas against bet­ter teams,” the Carnar­von Com­mu­nity Col­lege stu­dent said.

“Mum and Dad are su­per proud and sup­port­ive of all my achieve­ments.”

Judd was se­lected for the State squad af­ter he im­pressed scouts at the 2017 coun­try week.

Af­ter high school, Judd plans to be­come a pro­fes­sional ath­lete like his idol, Brazil­ian soc­cer great Ney­mar da Silva San­tos Ju­nior, com­monly known as Ney­mar.

The Phuket Cup be­gins on Novem­ber 26 and ends on De­cem­ber 3.
