A 41-year-old man who allegedly showed indecent material to a police officer posing as a 15-year-old girl has been refused bail.

Daniel Herbert Dann appeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court on Monday charged with using electronic communication with intent to procure a person under 16 to engage in sexual activity.

He is also facing five counts of using electronic communication to expose a child under 16 to indecent matter.

Magistrate Donna Webb said police had an “incredibly strong case”, adding that such offences were treated “extremely seriously” by courts.

“It is aggravated by the fact that these offences occurred while he was on a conditionally suspended imprisonment order,” she said.

“I’m not satisfied there’s any condition I could put in place that would ensure his compliance with bail, that would ensure he would not reoffend, and that would ensure the safety of the community.” Mr Dann was remanded in custody to reappear in the same court on November 22.
