Undermanned Rats prevail
It might have looked like an undermanned Rats outfit would have a tough time against a full Demons line-up in round 4 of Geraldton Water Polo Association men’s A-grade, but the results proved otherwise.
Rats had a stellar second quarter, leading their opponents 4-2 at the long break, proving all the difference at the final hooter.
Rats emerged winners, 7-5.
James Pluschke, Kye Mcvee and Darcey Wiffen all scored a brace apiece while Ryan Horton bagged two for Demons.
Mcvee, Wiffen, Caleb Gray and Jarrad Franceschi were named best players.
In the second men’s match, another tight encounter between stablemates B52’s Blue and B52’s Relics resulted in a 6-all result.
The Relics team held a slender 5-4 lead at half-time but were pegged back in the last quarter to equal the final score line.
Sunny Gleghorn had the hot hand for Relics with three goals.
Hayden Ralph chimed in with two, while Brendan Hagan bagged two for the Blue side.
Votes went to Gleghorn, Ralph, Corey Smith, Daniel Prout and Mick Mulligan.
First-placed B52’s defeated third-placed Serpents in the first Women’s A-grade game, 9-4.
B52’s Emma Smith added three goals to her name and was assisted by Keshi McCagh, contributing two. Serpents’ Coraleigh Abram also contributed two for her team.
Better players named were Smith, Aimee Hagan and Tiahni Rowcroft. The second women’s A-grade game between Demons and Rats was an interesting contest between two young teams.
Demons jumped to a 3-0 lead at the half-time break, enough to secure a 4-1 win at full-time.
Demons’ Kobi Toomathscored three, while Gabby Abrams was the Rats’ only scorer. Votes went to Toomath, Casey Tunbridge, Kelsey Mitchell and Izzy Schultz.
