“The fight for the podium soon included the top seven cars...”
The track was even wetter when the Mighty’s went out to race. Paul Inch made a great getaway and led the field into Quarry for the first time, but the biggest mover on the first lap was Adrian Tuckley, who’d made it up to third place from sixth.
With Inch holding the lead, Paul Rhodes made a move at Quarry to pass Martyn Hathaway, before rising to third at Old Paddock. A mistake by Inch at Camp then allowed Sam Hathaway into the lead, quickly followed by dad Martyn Hathaway as Inch was demoted to third. The pair were side- by- following lap to rise to second. Hathaway tried to overtake Inch at Folly, but carried too much momentum and spun into the barrier when he tried to brake for Quarry.
As the track dried, Inch began to struggle with an engine issue, with Slark and Martyn Hathaway overtaking him. However, Hathaway then spun and later hit the barrier. Tuckley also passed the slowing Inch, but another sideways moment for Tuckley at Camp allowed Harrington to pass him. It finished with Rhodes taking the win, Slark in second and Harrington a distant third.
