TO BE REFRESHED
Name: Matthew Tonkin Car: 1967 Morris Mini Deluxe Location: Adelaide, South Australia
Matthew got this 1967 Morris Mini Deluxe from a mate in 2011. A one-family car, it had been owned from new and passed down three generations! But prior to coming into Matthew’s ownership, it’d been left in a shed for 15 years undriven. Totally original, it has a Toga White exterior, red interior, no heater, no radio and wind-up windows. After fixing the brakes and suspension, Matthew drove it through the summer then parked it up due to work commitments. Two-years later he embarked on its restoration with his father-inlaw. They pulled the engine and gearbox out to freshen it up and were in the process of starting rust repairs when Matthew’s father-inlaw became severely ill and sadly passed away. The car has been on the back burner since then. Matthew’s plan this year is to finish the rust repairs and get this Mini going again. He plans to respray it in the same colour scheme, with some colour-coded arches, either some widened Cooper S wheels/hub caps or some 10x6-inch Mambas, a discreet stereo install and a fresh (and slightly hotter) 998cc engine to enjoy during the warmer months.
The car will be resprayed in its same Toga White hue.
