StreetWork Ku-ring-gai Com­mu­nity Fun Day 2018

On Sun­day 18 Novem­ber, lo­cal youth or­ga­ni­za­tion, StreetWork will be host­ing their Com­mu­nity Fun Day in Hornsby Mall. StreetWork’s Hornsby Ku-ring-gai branch will be sup­ported by Ro­tary Wahroonga and lo­cal busi­nesses, lo­cal po­lit­i­cal mem­bers and sup­port­ers.

Align­ing with In­ter­na­tional Men’s Day, this fundrais­ing event will fo­cus on Pos­i­tive Male Role Mod­els. The theme is to en­cour­age males, of any age, to work to­gether for men­tal and phys­i­cal health.

“We see pow­er­ful con­nec­tions in solid men­tor­ing re­la­tion­ships within our male com­mu­nity” says StreetWork Chair­man, Lloyd Wilkins. “The Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai com­mu­nity has come to­gether to em­power, en­cour­age and en­gage with mem­bers who need sup­port both phys­i­cally and men­tally.”

Hornsby Shire’s Mayor, the Hon­or­able Philip Rud­dock, will of­fi­ci­ate the open­ing of the event wel­com­ing lo­cal in­dige­nous com­mu­nity mem­bers who will per­form the ‘Wel­come to Coun­try’ cer­e­mony. Join­ing him, Mem­ber for Ku-ring-gai, Alis­ter Henskens SC MP, Min­is­ter for In­no­va­tion and Bet­ter Reg­u­la­tion Matt Kean and Fed­eral Mem­ber for Brad­field and Min­is­ter for Fam­i­lies and So­cial Ser­vices Paul Fletcher will also be at­tend­ing through­out the day.

On av­er­age, one in eight men will ex­pe­ri­ence de­pres­sion and one in five men will ex­pe­ri­ence anx­i­ety at some stage of their lives. The Hon­or­able Philip Rud­dock says; “It is vi­tal, that as male role mod­els in our com­mu­nity, that we sup­port our mates, our young men, col­leagues and peers when it comes to men­tal health. Look for signs of de­pres­sion, lis­ten for words of anx­i­ety and talk about what’s go­ing on. To­gether we can re­move the stigma ma from men­tal health this In­ter­na­tional Men’s Day.”

Through­out the day, mem­bers of the com­mu­nity will be able to chal­lenge each other on a push kart course, lis­ten to 2HHH’s live broad­cast, watch lo­cal per­for­mances, cre­ate slime in the Kid’s Cor­ner, visit health and well­be­ing stalls and en­joy StreetWork’s fa­mous fundrais­ing BBQ. All pro­ceeds from the day will go to StreetWork’s Kick­start Men­tor­ing Pro­gram.
