What do you do if you’re not in contact with your mum before your baby arrives? “A new child isn’t a magical cure,” says Rosjke. Wait until you’re past the six-month ‘baby cocoon’ stage, when your energy is focused on caring for your baby. Then you may feel able to work on healing your relationship with your mum. If it’s beyond repair, Rosjke says it may be helpful to write her a letter explaining how you feel. “But don’t send it,” she warns, “unless you can cope with the consequences.”
