It’s gen­er­ally safe to eat a food that’s passed its best-be­fore date, but don’t try the same thing with foods that have use-by dates. “Af­ter the use-by date has passed, there’s a good chance the food will pose a health or safety risk, so throw it out,” ad­vises Rachelle. And la­bel any ex­pressed milk with a date and time – it can be stored in the fridge for up to 48 hours, or in the freezer for up to three months (al­ways de­frost it in the fridge).
