TOOTH BE TOLD

Mother & Baby (Australia) - - The Buzz -

Did you know more than 50 per cent of all six-year-old Australian children have experienced tooth decay in their baby teeth? And it’s likely this occurs by picking up bad habits from their parents. Dentist Dr David Dunn shares his top tips on establishing good toddler dental hygiene.

DIET:

Avoid soft drinks, high carbohydrate sugary foods and acidic foods and drinks.

BRUSHING HABITS:

Toddlers should brush twice a day with a children’s fluoridated toothpaste. The use of a children’s electric toothbrush, such as the Philips Sonicare for Kids is recommended after the age of four.

REGULAR DENTIST VISITS:

This shows toddlers that it’s not scary. Bring your child to the dentist when you would normally go. This gets kids into a good routine and minimises the risk of future apprehension.
