Fol­low­ing a Mediter­ranean diet be­fore you fall preg­nant can re­duce your risk of de­vel­op­ing pre-eclamp­sia and ges­ta­tional hy­per­ten­sion dur­ing preg­nancy, re­search from The Univer­sity of Queens­land has sug­gested. The study shows that women who fol­lowed a diet rich in veg­eta­bles, legumes, nuts, tofu, rice, pasta, rye bread, red wine and fish in their child-free years had a 42 per cent lower risk of de­vel­op­ing hy­per­ten­sive dis­or­ders when they did fall preg­nant.
