Once a rule has been es­tab­lished and is part of the nor­mal rou­tine, it’s okay to in­tro­duce times when you’re flex­i­ble about it. But ex­plain why it’s a spe­cial oc­ca­sion, for ex­am­ple, ‘Bed­time is at seven o’clock but be­cause nana and grand­dad have come to visit it’s okay to stay awake un­til eight, how­ever to­mor­row night it’s bed­time at seven.’
